Doing subdued cool and RULING at it

‘Near Dark’, the new collection from Dress Up - c’est super cool. I am really enjoying a nice pair of slacks lately, like Stephanie’s black ones above in particular… perhaps it’s a sign of ageing?

Melbournians really are the masters of all-black attire. I recently met up with Melbourne-based label AMBER&THOMAS, who’ve created the most perfect pair of black suede shorts I’ve seen to date.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER
“It was important to us to create something that is conceptual and more art-based than fashion,” says Nic Van Messner, one half of the collaborative couple behind LIFEwithBIRD, who have forgone the usual runway display to present their AW 09 collection as a set of posters photographed by Justin Cooper. “It’s an expression of how we want LIFEwithBIRD to be viewed. Confidence, subtlety, power, mystery, fun, darkness…” Based around the allure of Paris’ Marais district, the collection is a clash of renaissance and rococo. Fresh from launching the collection in New York, Van Messner and co-conspirator Bridget McCall have some new and exciting projects on the horizon. “The word on the street is that our bags and shoes will be back for AW 09/10, so be very excited… we are! And we’re getting married in Bali with all of our friends and family on the cliff tops of Uluwatu. We’ve been partners in work, play and now foreverness! It doesn’t get much better…”
