Dhani Harrisons’s band The NewNo2’s video “Yomp” from their debut albulm
Oh Julian. You’re still my favourite Stroke.
Behind the scenes of Julian’s ‘11th Dimension’ music video, from his debut solo album ‘Phrazes For The Young’.
If you don’t know this band already… get to know them!
They are DAPPLED CITIES and they are easily one of the best bands coming out from down under right now.
They will make you laugh, they will make you dance and they even manage to turn a Joy Division cover into a camp-inflected theatrical performance - YES that’s a good thing!
Here they are rocking out at the Laneway Festival in matching gold lamé unitards like it’s no big deal… American Apparel should give them a call.
Their new album Zounds is out now. www.dappledcities.com
“I had a dream the other night that a guy was sentenced to death for attempting to commit suicide. And in my dream the guy was me and I was standing at the back of the court room screaming ‘nooooooooooo… noooooooooo’. - Daniel Johnston. Laneway Festival. Sydney. January 31st 2010.

DEAD LOVERS TWISTED HEART
An exhibition of drawings by Daniel Johnston
Pretty Rad… And he even busted out a few tunes at the opening accompanied by British music journalism legend Everett True!
If you’re in Sydney go take a look…. it’s on until Feb 13th
My weekend was filled with John Cale, who gave the keynote speech and played a gig as part of the Sydney Festival.
Imagine giving a slideshow presentation of your life that runs from La Monte Young to the Velvets to Patti to The Stooges to the Happy Mondays to Eno… pretty radical.
One thing he said really stuck with me…
“Art has a way of making life irrelevant. It has all the seductive powers of a heavy drug.”
sometimes a new year can feel really weird
to try and even it all out i have been listening to NO ALOHA on repeat while walking really quickly from destination A to B.
Ha.
Anyway, The Breeders rule and you should go out and buy (from a real cd store even) their first ticket from 1990 POD or my favorite Last Splash & see if it gets you going too.
RUSSH talks to LA MANCHA NEGRA in our current issue. Check out their MySpace to listen to some of their tracks!

Echo & The Bunnymen! Daniel Johnston! Dirty Three! Black Lips! Dappled Cities! The Middle East!
We’re not usually ones for hyper exclamations but the stellar line-up for St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2010 deserves a few (or twenty). Tickets go on sale Friday October 30, 9:00am. Be there or risk feeling sorry for yourself for… hmm… the rest of your life (duh) that you missed out.
Brisbane, Friday January 29; Melbourne, Saturday January 30; Sydney, Sunday January 31; Auckland, Monday February 1; Adelaide, Friday February 5; Perth, Saturday February 6

Could it be true? We keep hearing whispers that the jean genie himself, Mr. David Bowie, will be in attendance for Big Day Out 2010…
Although we’re quite chuffed with the line-up so far - The Mars Volta, Peaches, The Horrors, Tame Impala, Muse, Midnight Juggernauts and more, and there’s that sneaky second line-up announcement to come yet.
If you hadn’t heard the endless ringing of registers selling out tickets we suggest you rustle up some coin ASAP.
Auckland - Friday 15/1; Gold Coast Sun 17/1; Sydney Fri 22/1; Melbourne Tues 26/1; Adelaide Fri 29/1; Perth Sun 31/1

Last Friday I went to visit Love Police, and left with a severe case of office envy.
For those out of the loop, Love Police have been around since ‘96 touring and promoting bands, designing everything from cover art to posters and producing band and event merchandise - basically, they’re the behind-the-scenes team who work super hard at convincing your favourite bands to come to Australia to play.
But this wasn’t what impressed easily-pleased me most - oh, no. BT (the owner) has the most insane collection of band merchandise I have seen. Ever. In my whole life. Nirvana cap from their first tour? Check. White Stripes USB sticks? They got ‘em. Framed playlists from Sonic Youth? Of course!
That’s him with the guitar, rocking out with Andy who works in touring (and also plays bass in You Am I). They play in a band called The Gypsy Curse. BT ran that name by some real gypsies who gave it the a-ok.
